MIRACLE FORMULA

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT:

The Machine-learning Implemented Refraction Advice for Cataractous Lens Exchange (MIRACLE) formula was developed by Dr. Jinchul Kim of MIRACLE Eye Clinic in Seoul, Korea. Its purpose is to address the recently reported inaccuracies of newer IOL calculation formulas in long Asian eyes and improve the refractive outcome of presbyopia correcting cataract surgery.

Physicians bear full responsibility for the selection of IOL power prior to cataract surgery. By using the MIRACLE formula online calculator, users acknowledge and agree to release the author from any claims and hold them harmless from any issues arising from the use of this tool.

It is important to note that the MIRACLE formula is specifically designed for East Asian patients who share similar ocular biometric traits with the Korean population that formed its training data. However, by incorporating a more robust algorithms for the differences in ocular biometric characteristics, it can be used for patients from difference ethnicities.

The MIRACLE formula is developed using the Zeiss IOLMaster 700 conventional axial length (AL) and total keratometry (TK) measurements. Therefore, it is recommended to enter the conventional, unmodified AL and TK values. However, conventional keratometry (K) values can also be used.

Additionally, it is optimized for use with Alcon Acrysof/Clareon PanOptix IOLs, which are the base IOLs of the formula. For Asian patients, it is recommended to initially use an A-constant of 119.1 until sufficient data are accumulated for further optimization.

The MIRACLE formula was developed based on the referenced papers, which have already been published and will be sequentially published.

Please note that we do not retain any calculation data.
